If it’s listed, it’s still for sale. Don’t ask if it’s still available, you’ll get no response. I will not ship.
Selling my cherished M1 Garand. I fired it once and put 4 clips through it (32 rounds) after my gunsmith installed the Gas Plug, and he fired 1 clip testing it. My sniper friend put about 40 rounds through it at a long distance range and he was making the targets “ping” from over 300 yards with the iron sights. I can’t see worth a crap, so I couldn’t do the same.
I’m willing to let it go for $1600 firm. They’ve sold for a little less up to a lot more on Texas Gun Trader and Gunbroker, not in the fantastic shape that this one is in. If it isn’t sold by the weekend, I’ll post it on Gunbroker dot com and it will sell for more but I’ll have to deal with their charge, the FFL, shipping, etc.
2700864 serial indicates manufacture in March of 1944 By Springfield Armory. Barrel must have been replaced by the Army, because the numbers on the barrel reflect “S A 1 51” meaning manufactured in January, 1951 by Springfield Armory.
According to the M1 Garand Known Heat Lot Codes, 6528287-SA A11 indicates the bolt is post war by Springfield Armory, between 4,24X,XXX and 4,28X,XXX, which aligns with the barrel having been replaced in 1951. The A in front of the 11 indicates Armco Steel produced the barrel for Springfield Armory. ( see this website for dating Bolt Heads https://myplace.frontier.com/~aleccorapinski/id12. html )
I have upgraded to an updated Gas Plug from Garand Gear, made to delay the operating rod and reduce pressure in the gas cylinder by expanding gas volume. This allows the M1 Garand to safely use commercial ammunition outside of the M2 Ball, alleviating the risk of damaging the operating rod. 152 grains was the original M2 Ball. Now it will fire many different rounds, though generally the load should not exceed 172 grains.
I can find no markings on the stock, but it they may have been worn off over time. It is in beautiful condition though. The sling has been on it just like that for at least 40 years that I remember, and probably since it was redone in 1951 by the Army.
